Welcome to Tulane Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery!
The 2004-2005 academic year was an outstanding one for the
Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery. The faculty
has made numerous contributions locally and nationally in the areas
of publication, teaching, research, and community outreach. As we
begin our 89th year as an autonomous department, it is with great pleasure that I have the opportunity to serve as the first Harold G. Tabb Professor and Chair in the department.
The quality of the residency program remains high with applicant
interest and qualifications increasing. Over 300 applications were
received and 40 interviews offered for three positions. Many of
the applicants possessed advanced degrees and had varied work/research
experiences, which only help to advance an already excellent training
program. Annual anonymous evaluations of the program by the current
residents resulted in an overall “outstanding”
level of satisfaction with the current training environment. This academic year marked
the eighteenth consecutive year that all residents completing the
program obtained board certification on the first attempt. Our last
RRC site visit resulted in another 5 years of full accreditation.
As we look ahead to the next academic year, our primary goals
are to
continue to provide quality patient care, to provide outstanding
opportunities for future generations of otolaryngologists, and to
balance all this with a commitment to invest our time and talents
on meaningful basic/clinical science research. We are capable of
achieving these objectives by working closely with our partners
and related medical staff at Tulane University Hospital and Clinic.
I realize that there is always room for individual and specialty
improvement. It is my responsibility to serve the department and
the
health sciences center by making it possible for all of us to perform
at our very best. After all, our motto is "Small but Mighty"... and
that is exactly what Tulane Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery
is all about!
