Internal Medicine and Neurology

Nearly unique among training programs, Tulane University offers the rare opportunity to become board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Neurology. Whereas Internal Medicine requires three years and Neurology requires a year of Medicine and three of neurology (total four), the combined program requires five years.

The rationale for the program is strong; patients with neurologic disease frequently have disease outside the CNS: eg, Stroke patients often have diabetes, heart disease or hypertension. This program, one more year than the usual training in neurology, allows a physician to have a more complete understanding of multisystem disease, and allows the graduate to pursue any fellowship in medicine as well as neurology or to enter private practice with unparalleled flexibility.

Neurology/Medicine enjoys strong support from both the Departments of Medicine and Neurology & Psychiatry, allowing for flexibility according the resident's wishes. For more information, contact Andrew Naidech MD .
