EXAMINATIONS

Medical Histology is taught in three blocks. At the end of each block, written and practical examinations will be given. The two components will be weighted equally to determine the block grade.

Each practical examination consists of two parts. Part A is composed of 20 microscopic glass slides, and 15 light or electron micrographs (which may have secondary questions) and part B consists of 15 kodachromes. The practical scores are combined to determine the practical grade for each block (possible 50 points).

All written examinations will be of the objective type. Questions will cover material presented in lecture, laboratory and review sessions. The form of the questions may vary and may include multiple choice, matching, and fill-in-the-blank questions. Each written examination is worth 50 points.

Each block grade is weighted equally in determining the final grade.

IMPORTANT: Students are not required to pass each examination, but must have an over-all passing average (70%) on the examinations at the end of the course. Furthermore, an average grade of 70% on the practical examinations is required in order to pass the course. Any student who conditions or fails all of the written examinations will automatically fail the course regardless of the practical grades.

Absence from examinations. The only excused absences are those certified by the Student Health Service or the Office of Student Affairs. A student who misses an examination with an excused absence will be given a grade of "Incomplete" in the course; a make-up examination will be scheduled for a time to be designated by the course director, usually during the summer following the academic year.
